Access to Drinking Water
Access to tap water is very low in rural areas i.e. 13% as compared to 43% in urban areas of Punjab. Though the coverage of water supply through improved water sources has improved, yet the quality of drinking water remains substandard, as the major sources are hand pumps and turbine supplying contaminated or brackish water.
The project identification process is underway in priority Tehsils of Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan Regions. Engineering Management & Community Mobilization Consultants have been selected through a transparent process to initiate the Evidence Based mapping and find out best technological solutions to the surveyed areas. Groundbreaking of the physical projects is scheduled for April 10, 2015.

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification technology that uses a semipermeable membrane to remove larger particles from drinking water. This membrane technology is not considered a proper filtration method. In reverse osmosis, an applied pressure is used to overcome osmotic pressure, a colligative property, that is driven by chemical potential, a thermodynamic parameter.
Ultrafiltration is a type of membrane filtration. Industries such as chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and wastewater treatment employ ultrafiltration in order to recycle flow or add value to later products. Ultrafiltration is commonly abbreviated to "UF."
